China not a big corn buyer in near term-USDA
28.02.2011 11:41 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
China is not likely
to import large amounts of
corn in the near term unless it
has a crop shortfall, said a
senior Agriculture Department
analyst on Friday.
In recent years, China imported
about 1 million tonnes
annually. Early this month, a
U. S. Grains Council official
said China might need 9 million tonnes of corn this year
due to dwindling stocks.
Jerry Norton, who is in charge of USDAs world wheat and
feed grain estimates, said prices do not favor sales of U.S.
corn to China at present. China is second to the United
States in corn production and use. The United States accounts
for half of world trade in corn.
