More farmers into sugarcane farming, Nepal
14.12.2010 09:52 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
More farmers in Parsa district are attracted towards sugarcane farming even after the closure of Birgunj Sugar Mill.
According to the District Agriculture Development Office, around 35,000 hectares of agrarian land have been used for sugarcane farming. Though the office lacks the exact number of farmers taking up sugarcane farming which is a cash crop, growing sugarcane in 35,000 hectares is considered huge.
The stiff competition among sugar mills situated in Bara, Rautahat and Sarlahi district has encouraged an increasing number of farmers to start sugarcane farming.
