Moldovan sugar producers urge Gov to save sugar industry

As of this week, while speaking within a meeting with Moldovan Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Georgeta Mink, the Moldovan sugar producers told that now the country sugar plants’ wharehouses are overstocked with record-high reserves of unsold sugar Ukrainian National Association of Sugar Producers says referring to the Sputnik Moldova report.
As to the report, the meeting participants told the sugar industry crisis has been caused by the domestic market sugar sales’ fall, contraband sugar import shipments, and CIS countries markets’ loss.
Reportedly, the Moldovan sugar producers called on their Government to introduce urgent measures to protect the country domestic market. They told they face huge losses as the quotas allocated to Moldova under the Association Agreement with the European Union and the DCFTA Free Trade Agreement are not enough, and, besides, the sugar export to the CIS countries’ markets have fallen to zero low due to political reasons.
