31.12.2012 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
German Chancellor Angela Merkel believes that austerity reforms embraced by EU countries as a means of dealing with the debt crisis are beginning to show results, Voice of Russia reports referring to RIA.
Nevertheless, the Chancellor urged her compatriots to be patient, since overcoming the crisis will take more time.
«The world has not yet learned the lesson of the devastating financial crisis of 2008. We cannot allow the same irresponsibility as before,» - said Merkel.
According to her, the European debt crisis has highlighted the importance of a balance between social protection of the population and economic performance.
The politician noted the year 2013 was expected to be more complicated in economic terms. «However, this should not to drive us to despair, but, instead, spur us on» - said Merkel, noting that Germany does not intend to retract its obligations, including announced unprecedented investments in education and research.
