Cooperation with the CIS countries is one of the priorities of the foreign policy of Ukraine

This was announced by Mykola Azarov on September 28 during a speech at the Council of Heads of the Governments of the Commonwealth of Independent States in Yalta, Mykola Azarov Official Website reports.
«Ukraine’s cooperation within the CIS is one of the priorities of Ukrainian foreign policy. This is a firm position of the Head of our State Viktor Yanukovych and my position as of Prime Minister,» Head of the Cabinet stressed.
He reminded that nine years ago at the CIS summit in Yalta it was decided to introduce a free trade zone, «And now when the agreement on the FTA has entered into force, new opportunities are offered for its participants. This contract will be a starting point for the formation of trade and economic relations between our countries at a brand new level.»
Mykola Azarov said that step-by-step implementation and development of the provisions of the Agreement on free trade area with member countries of the CIS was then on the agenda.
Ukrainian Prime Minister also read out a welcoming speech of the President Viktor Yanukovych to the participants of the Council meeting, which stated that Ukraine considered the CIS as an important mechanism to increase gradual economic, cultural and humanitarian development of the CIS member countries.
Moreover, Prime Minister has informed those present that the next meeting of the CIS Heads of the Governments would be held on May 31 in Minsk. In addition, he expressed hope that by this time several agreements aimed at enhancing mutual cooperation would be prepared.
