The government intends in the next few years to solve the problem of providing Ukraine with domestic fruits, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said in Crimea on Monday as part of his working visit to the peninsula.
«The country is building a system of wholesale markets, developing the logistics system of prompt delivery of fruits to consumers. This whole system and an integrated approach will enable us in the next few years to solve the problem of providing us with fruits produced in our country, except for the exotic,» said the head of government. He explained that the governments attention is focused on this issue over a large number of imported fruits in Ukrainian stores. «If in the summer we have about two thirds of domestic production, in the winter we have three quarters of import fruits,» Azarov emphasized. To change this situation, the government has introduced an appropriate compensation, and updated the 1.5% in tax on the restoration of the vineyards. Apart from this, the prime minister said, the government is implementing a program to create modern vegetable stores. «This is a powerful program, and for 1.5 years of its works a large number of vegetable stores have been built». The head of government also noted the creation of the system of wholesale markets, which should provide producers with long-term orders.
