Doha trade meeting explores solutions to the global economic crisis
23.04.2012 08:19 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
New policy ideas and bold action will be required for the world to recover from the global economic crisis.
That is the message from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in an address to the latest meeting of the UN Trade and Development Conference (UNCTAD) which opened on Saturday in Doha, Qatar.
UN Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro delivered the speech on Mr. Bans behalf.
«While the crisis began in the most advanced economies, its effects were felt across the globe, and continue to undermine the development prospects of many of the poorest countries. Since then, the recovery has been fragile at best, and pre-crisis growth continues to be out of reach in most countries,» Asha-Rose Migiro said.
Mr. Ban has asked participants at the meeting, known as UNCTAD XIII, to examine the causes of the economic crisis and to indentify measures to prevent its recurrence.
