29.02.2012 10:07 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
National joint stock company Naftogaz of Ukraine is in talks with a German company on using the capacities of Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities, Deputy Board Chairman of Naftogaz Vadym Chuprun said during the Ukrainian Energy Forum.
«The negotiations are proceeding. One of the German companies showed interest, and offers its own terms on keeping certain companies gas in our stores,» Chuprun said.
Thus, according to him, European consumers will have additional resources to compensate for the reduction of the natural gas supply.
The deputy head of the Naftogaz of Ukraine board did not specify exactly what company is holding these negotiations. He just noted that Naftogaz negotiate any volumes.
Chuprun noted that the existing Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities can hold up to 250 million cubic meters of gas. After the reconstruction this amount could increase to 400 million cubic meters. «Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities will help meet sharply increasing demand for gas as we saw in Europe during a considerable decrease in air temperatures,» Chuprun said.
He added that this winter about 10 billion cubic meters remained idle in Ukraines underground storage facilities.
