Ukrainian grain exports to Egypt in January 2012, compared with the first month of the previous year increased by 25 times.
These data were published by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Arab Republic of Egypt Yevhen Kyrylenko in Cairo, at the first international conference on technologies for the processing of cereals.
«As a result of January 2012, Egypt imported from Ukraine grain for 95.5 million dollars, including 327 thousand tons of corn and 62 thousand tons of wheat, which is 25 times more than in the previous year, when restrictions (quotas) on the export of grain were functioning in Ukraine,» Kyrylenko said.
He noted that the issue of food security and modernization of food technology arouses constant interest of both specialized companies and the government of Egypt. In particular, the said conference in Cairo is accompanied by an exhibition of related equipment. According to the Ukrainian diplomat, this interest of the Egyptian side in modern agricultural technologies and techniques can open up new prospects for bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Egypt.
