Driving sustainable business growth in a resource-constrained world
15.02.2012 08:32 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Private business must step in and help governments come up with solutions for sustainable growth. That’s the message the U. N. Secretary General delivered to business and world policy leaders meeting at a conference in New York ahead of the Rio+20 corporate sustainability summit.
Ban Ki-moon opened the conference by telling CEO’s that while governments and even he himself are constrained by bureaucracy, CEO’s have the power to make a decision today, that can be carried out tomorrow.
He also challenged those attending with following words:
«Do not in one breath affirm a belief in free and fair trade and then with the next support progress subsidies and protectionist legislation. Do not proclaim a broad commitment to sustainability while simultaneously blocking meaningful steps to climate change.»The three day conference is being organized by KPMG, a global audit tax and advisory firm.
