World food prices rise for first time in 6 months
10.02.2012 08:12 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Global food prices have increased by 2 per cent in January, says the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization.
It’s the first increase in 6 months.
The price of cooking oil on the global market has increased the most, followed by cereals, sugar, dairy products and meat, says FAO.
And this despite an expected record harvest and improved stock situation, the agency adds.
The 6 months of falling and stable prices, followed by a hike in food prices highlights the unpredictability prevailing in global food markets.
FAO issues a Food Price Index every month which measures the change in international food prices.
