Yuriy Boyko: We will find a compromise in gas talks with Russia

The Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Yuriy Boyko believes that a compromise in gas talks with Russia will be found. He announced this in Sevastopol on 27 December.
«I consider that we will find a compromise. From January 15, we agreed to hold next round of negotiations,» the Minister said.
Thus, Yuriy Boyko noted that the principled position of the President Viktor Yanukovych on cooperation in gas sector creating a model on a parity basis with national interests of Ukraine.
«There is a principled position of the President, which underlies all negotiations. Firstly, we are ready to create a model with our partners on equal terms and in accordance with our national interests. Secondly, we will negotiate as long as necessary to defend our national interests and principled position of President has been implemented,» the Minister said.
Yuriy Boyko added that the Russian side has already convinced in principle position of the Ukrainian side in the negotiations.
«The negotiations will continue. There are moments in which we have closer, there are moments for which we have fundamental differences. The President never will go on limitation of the national interests, it has become clear and our partners,» the Minister stressed.
He also added that at the previous government, it had been signed a very disadvantageous for Ukraine gas contract.
«Those who signed did not understand what they were signing at all. Practically they signed that edition which has given without delving into details. Through this contract for two years, it shakes the whole country,» the Minister said.
It is to be mentioned, during a meeting in St. Petersburg on December 23, 2011, Yuriy Boyko and Chairman of the Board OJSC «Gazprom» Alexey Miller summed up the negotiating process in the gas sector. The sides emphasized the positive and constructive character of the talks held in 2011 as well as good prospects for the next round of talks which is to take place on 15 January 2012.
