Ukraine exports 220,000 tons of bread grain in November
22.12.2011 17:19 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Cooperation with international grain traders is important for the Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry, because the condition of winter grain crops is rather difficult, the chief of the ministry’s department of economics and market development, Serhiy Kvasha, has said.
«The ministry is holding meetings with a number of world traders regarding the careful handling of bread grain. In our opinion, these agreements are being executed, and, in particular, exports of bread grain in November reached only 220,000 tons,» he said. He said that this was a fairly low figure. At the same time, Kvasha stressed that corn remained a dominant crop in exports. He said that Ukraine exported 1.71 million tons of corn out of 2.14 million tons of grain exported in November 2011, or 78% of total grain exports. As of December 19, 2011, Ukraine exported 8.1 million tons of grain crops, in particular, 2.3 million tons of wheat, 3.8 million tons of corn, and 830,000 tons of rapeseed, Kvasha said. Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk said earlier that Ukraine planned to export 27 million tons of grain this year. According to experts, Ukraine could lose winter crops on 40% of the area due to unfavorable weather conditions.
