20.12.2011 08:14 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The international community is being urged to work together to build a safer, more prosperous future for all.
In a message ahead of «International Human Solidarity Day» marked on Tuesday, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon underscored the importance of working together to tackle global problems.
In his message, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says that this year «International Human Solidarity Day» comes at a time when the world is confronting multiple challenges and opportunities.
He says the world population reached 7 billion people, governments are cutting down on social spending to reduce deficits, and new anxieties are giving rise to tensions and fears.
At the same time, Mr. Ban adds there is «a world of possibilities» in fighting disease, harnessing technology and bridging socioeconomic gaps and inequalities.
He says the international community must work together to achieve sustainable development, to prevent and mitigate conflicts, to stop human rights abuses and to reduce impacts of natural disasters.
