Asia urged to take “proper share of responsibility” in global issues
21.11.2011 08:16 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Asian nations have been urged to take greater «share of responsibility» in tackling global issues.
The call was made by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at a meeting of business leaders from Southeastern Asian countries in Bali, Indonesia, on Friday.
The Secretary-General said Asian nations, which have invested in their people, have made progress in economic development.
«Asia is on the rise. While other regions of the world are beset with economic troubles, you continue to grow and to thrive. This presents a paradox: while Asia gains in power and influence, it has not yet begun to fully take on its proper share of responsibility. Asia has not taken proper role in the international community for the larger world that we share,» admitted Ban Ki-moon.
The Secretary-General said this is the message he will also deliver to the summit of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) that is taking place in Bali, Indonesia.
