UN chief calls for launch of Green Climate Fund

World leaders have been urged to launch a fund to help developing countries deal with climate change.
The call for the launch of the Green Climate Fund was made by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in Cannes, France as leaders of major world economies, known as the G20 concluded their meeting on Friday.
Leaders of major world economies have met together in Cannes to tackle the global financial and economic problems.
UN chief, Ban Ki-moon appealed to them to launch the Green Climate Fund during the climate change meeting scheduled to start at the end of this month in Durban, South Africa.
The Fund is aimed at channeling up to $100 billion a year to help developing countries tackle climate change.
Mr. Ban also called for a compromise solution in Durban over a global agreement to reduce greenhouse gases, known as the Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012.
