Australia. Canola Could Help Mining Industry
12.08.2010 14:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
A biofuels company is hoping that a new variety of canola can be used to supplement the mining sectors increasing demand for diesel.
According to ABC, Smorgon Fuels currently has crop trials spread across the nation, including the Ord Valley region in Western Australia.
Mile Soda, a consultant from the Victorian organisation, told the news provider that Australias ongoing push towards cleaner energy is helping biofuels producers.
«Were looking at the future, and Western Australia being a huge user of diesel through the mining, means were sitting back and thinking how can we tap into that opportunity down the track,» he said.
Smorgon Fuels has so far planted more than 13,000 hectares (32,124 acres) of Dry Land Juncea 200 across New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, as well as field trials in Western Australia.
