Cargill is enhancing its grain handling presence in southern Alberta with the purchase of Viterras grain elevator facility in Carseland, Alberta, effective Aug. 23, 2010. The facility is approximately 50 kilometers east of Calgary.
«We are excited about the inclusion of this facility into our existing Prairie grain-handling network,» said Mike Morlock, farm service group manager in southern Alberta for Cargill AgHorizons-Canada. «It represents a significant improvement for many of our regional customers in terms of its accessible location. Enhancing our partnership with growers has always been and always will be one of our highest priorities.»
Morlock characterized the acquisition as a significant investment for Cargill. «This acquisition will advance Cargills sustainable growth strategy to improve the services available to area crop farmers,» he said.
The Carseland grain facility was built in 1998. It has a grain storage capacity of 35,300 metric tonnes with a 112-railcar loading capability.
