VR raised beer excise duty to UAH0,6 per liter, up 93.5%
05.06.2009 10:12 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Having adopted draft Law ¹ 4503, Verkhovna Rada has grown beer excise duty to UAH0,6 per liter, up UAH0,29 per liter (+ 93.5%) as of previous, with excise duty to come into force since Jul 01/09. Draft Law was voted for in whole by 331 people deputies from 226 total necessary. While discussing draft Law, people deputies decided to raise excise duty to UAH0,6 per liter (though draft Law initially suggested raising to UAH0,54 per liter). People deputies removed provision from draft Law on raising excise duty for all kinds wines. Deputies brought changes to draft Law for that provision removal due to VR Budgetary Committee decision. Additional incomes received from excise duty raising were suggested to be directed to local budgets for sugar diabetes patients treatment additional subsidies, Lviv day-and-night water supply measures subvention and Taras Shevchenko National Park (Kaniv) 2009 repair and restoration works ending/museum exposition creation subvention. Beer producers regard gorilka companies having lobbied beer excise duty raising as non-market competition. Earlier, VR had registered several draft Laws stipulating either to raise beer excise duty to UAH0,6 per liter since Jul 2009 or gradually raise it to UAH1,01 per liter since 2010.
