VR registered food articles safety/quality draft Law

As of May 29/09, Verkhovna Rada has registered draft Law ¹ 4437 “About Bringing Changes into Ukrainian Law “About Safety and Quality of Food Articles” (regarding food articles genetically modified organisms (GMO) presence population informing). Draft Law brings changes into art. 2 and 38 of Ukrainian Law “About Safety and Quality of Food Articles.” Change to art. 2 stipulates exclusion of GMO mentioning. Change to art. 38 stipulates enlarging of food articles labeling demands whose nonfulfillment results in food articles circulation ban on Ukrainian territory (in part., art. 38 should be enlarged with clause 10 demanding to show data about food articles GMP presence/absence on labels). Draft Law is intended to realize consumers right to receive information on food articles through banning of food articles circulation whose labels do not provide information (in form acceptable for consumers) on food articles GMP presence/absence and strengthening of consumers rights protection by extension of Ukrainian Law “About Safety and Quality of Food Articles” efficiency on GMO containing products.
