Yushchenko vetoed Law establishing socially important food articles trade markup 15% and down
06.06.2008 10:07 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
President Viktor Yushchenko has imposed veto on Law stipulating sale prices ceiling markup for socially important food articles to be not over 15%, reported President press-service Jun 3. Yushchenko declared that Law “About Regulation of Sale of Some Socially Important Food Articles” (adopted May 16) restricts right of economic entities to fix goods sale prices, thus infringing owners’ right to manage goods at their discretion (stipulated by part 1/art. 41 of Ukrainian Constitution and part 1/art. 319 of Ukrainian Civil Code). Yushchenko admitted Law also violates noninterference of State into owners’ execution of their ownership right. President said all abovementioned can lead to abuses in course of Law application; he recommended Verkhovna Rada to reject it. As to Agro Perspective earlier report, May 16 Verkhovna Rada established sale prices ceiling markup for socially important food articles 15% and down. Socially important food articles include: wheat flour (highest, 1 and 2 grades); medium rye flour; bread, bakery/macaroni products made from wheat flour (highest, 1 and 2 grades) and medium rye flour (incl. diabetic products); groats, pork, beef, poultry meat (chicken), hen eggs; meat/sausage products (except for raw smoked/raw jerky); milk, sour cream, kefir, riazhanka, fermented cheeses, butter; salt, sugar, sunoil and maize oil; vegetables (potatoes, white head cabbage, beet and carrot).
