27.03.2008 13:20 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Prime Minister Yuliya Tymoshenko declared Cabinet believes Ukrainian agrarians are able to get record high (40-50 mn MT) grains crop in 2008, reported Cabinet press-service referring to Tymoshenko speech on Government extended session devoted to Government first 100 days in power. “We expect for such a high grains crop which we couldn’t even dream about within previous years,” says press-service as it cites Tymoshenko. Tymoshenko said grains crop is expected to reach 40 mn MT up to moderate estimation and 50 mn MT up to “secret optimistic estimation of Ministry of Agrarian Policy.” However, she didn’t mention who exactly among Ministry of Agrarian Policy officials had made “secret optimistic estimation” and which factors, save for this “secret optimistic estimation,” provided basis for Cabinet confidence in this season record high crop. As to Agro Perspective earlier report, 2007 grains crop totaled 29.3 mn MT (down against 34.3 mn MT in 2006). It is to be reminded, 2004 grains crop totaled 41.8 mn MT. In 1990, agrarians had harvested over 50 mn MT grains (51.009 mn MT).
