Ukrainian Premier Viktor Yanukovych has charged Ministry of Economics/Ministry of Agrarian Policy to examine whether it is possible for State Committee for Material Reserves (State Reserve) and Agrarian Fund to make 50,000-70,000 MT sugar purchases, reported RBK-Ukraine.
As to report, Yanukovych was prompted to make this proposal by Vasyl Chorniy, Vinnytsia region Governor.
“These volumes of sugar must be removed from country market to prevent dumping (sugar prices collapse),” declared Chorniy.
As to Agro Perspective earlier report, sugar (to be produced from 2007 crop beet) output may shorten to 1.6 mn MT, down against 2.5 mn MT (produced from 2006 crop beet).
As to National Sugar Producers Association (UNSPA) Ukrtsukor forecast, Ukrainian sugar (to be produced from this year crop beet) output may total 1.3-1.4 mn MT. Earlier, Ukrtsukor had lowered its 2007 sugar beet crop forecast to 16 mn MT (down against 22.2 mn MT in 2006).
