Cabinet Permits Local Authorities To Regulate Foodstuff prices

The Cabinet of Ministers has permitted local government bodies to regulate the level of trade markups and profitability of some foodstuffs production, including extra-grade flour, meat, dairy products and eggs.
Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Slauta announced this after the Cabinet’s meeting, as to information agencies.
«Governors say that today they lack powers, so we decided to authorize them to regulate profitability and level of trade markup for more foodstuffs,» Interfax Ukraine quotes Slauta as saying.
According to the Cabinet’s press services, on Tuesday governmental committee on agrarian issues has endorsed draft resolution On Amending Clause 12 of Supplement to Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers ¹1548, dated December 25, 1996.
The instrument extends authorities of local bodies on regulation of prices for extra-grade flour, bread, meat and meat products, milk and dairy products, eggs.
As to Agro Perspectiva earlier report, after a bread price hike in June, Ministry of Agrarian Policy proposed to the Cabinet to permit local authorities to regulate flour retail/wholesale prices as well as flour/bread production profitability in order to stabilize bread market/prevent bread prices growth
The Cabinet agreed to proposition of the ministry and permitted local authorities to regulate prices and profitability of flour and popular bread production.
According to the State’s Statistic Committee, in July bread prices rose by 2.2% against June, whereas flour prices by 6.3%.
Meat prices rose by 1.9%, milk by 0.6%, egg by 37.6%.
Sunoil prices advanced by 4.6%.
