Hydrometeorology Center: grains crop might total 25-27 mn MT
03.07.2007 10:07 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Ukrainian Hydrometeorology Center experts forecast this year country grains gross crop will total 25-27 mn MT, down against last year 34.3 mn MT. “We forecast this year grains/leguminous gross crop will reach 25-27 mn MT. It’s a preliminary forecast,” declared Tetiana Adamenko, Hydrometeorology Center Agrometeorology Department Chief. As to Adamenko, this year wheat gross crop is expected ≈ 12 mn MT (barley ≈ 6 mn MT, maize ≈ 6.5 mn MT). Adamenko admitted maize forecast is possible to come true only under favorable weather conditions. “Though maize shoots have been much affected by drought, yet their state might substantially improve if it rains within Jul first 10 days”, added Adamenko. As to Hydrometeorology Center, this year country winter wheat yield is to be expected 22 metric centners per ha (winter barley – 16 metric centners per ha, spring barley – 15 metric centners per ha, maize – 30 metric centners per ha). As to Agro Perspective earlier report, Ukrainian agrarians market experts had forecasted this year country grains crop would total 27-33 mn MT (down against last year 34.3 mn MT). As to Agro Perspective, within this year May-Jun drought had killed part of agricultural crops at ≈ 1.1 mn ha Ukrainian southern/eastern regions. As earlier reported Anatoliy Kinakh, Minister of Economics, Ukrainian grains total losses caused by May-Jun drought were estimated ≈ 7-10 mn MT.
