Slauta: 2007 food wheat production will be sufficient to assure domestic/export requirements
20.06.2007 09:18 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As to Agrarian-Industrial Complex Vice Premier Viktor Slauta Jun 18 briefing report, he is certain 2007 grains gross production (incl. food wheat) will be quite enough to satisfy domestic/foreign market demand. “As for our calculations, this year country grains gross production, especially food wheat, will be as high as annual average, – what is sure to preserve not only country resources, yet as well export potential”. Slauta didn’t tell which exact amount grains (incl. wheat) Government counts on. As to Agro Perspective earlier report, Ministry of Agrarian Policy had initially forecasted 2007 grains crop would reach 38 mn MT; however, due to drought, Ministry experts have become careful about grains crop prospects further estimation. Though authorities haven’t promulgated any official 2007 grains production forecast so far, within last week Premier Viktor Yanukovych declared Ukraine had lost part of this year grains crop due to drought.
