Researchers fear 30% 2007 crop would be destroyed if no rainfall

As to Volodymyr Kononuk, Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences Plant-Growing Department Chief declaration, Academy researchers say 30% total 2007 grains crop might be lost in case if there is no precipitation in May.
As to Kononuk, rainfall prolonged absence resulted in sown areas condition worsening and even winter grains partial resowing (Odessa region).
Department Chief said May weather conditions would be crucial for winter/spring grains growth; as to him, sufficient May rainfall would much improve winter/spring grains condition to assure 3537 mn MT crop.
As to Agro Perspective earlier report, Ministry of Agrarian Policy forecasted Ukrainian 2007 grains crop would grow to 38 mn MT, up 3.7 mn MT as of 2006.
As to Agro Perspective, country 2006 grains crop totaled 34.3 mn MT, down against 38.015 mn MT in 2005.
