21.11.2018 19:11 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of now, within Latin America and the Caribbean, the Week of Agriculture and Food is going on, UN Radio reports.
It is to be admitted, the Week of Agriculture and Food is a regional forum for the exchange of experiences, dialogue, learning and building partnerships among diverse actors from rural areas and the agri-food sector, with the aim of contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
As to the report, within the Week of Agriculture and Food, the FAO has presented its first edition of Panorama of Rural Poverty within Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Panorama admits that for the first time within a decade, the number of people falling into poverty within rural Latin America and the Caribbean has grown by two million.
In meanwhile, while speaking within the forum, Julio Berdegué, FAO Regional Representative, has called the worrying trend a «historical reversal».
«We cannot tolerate that one of every two rural inhabitants is poor, and one-in-five, indigent,» Julio Berdegué, FAO Regional Representative, admitted. «Worse still, we have suffered a historical reversal, a break in the trend that makes it clear that we are leaving our rural areas behind,» he said.
