Kovaliova: Agrarian Ministry-FAO cooperation strengthening to prompt achievement of global sustainable development 2030 goals

As of this week, Ukraine has participated the 26th session of the FAO Committee on Agriculture within Rome (Italy), aimed at solving global problems within agriculture, nutrition and developing proposals for concerted actions of FAO member states, Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food reports.
It is to be admitted, the key tasks of the 26th session of the Committee were to ensure the food stable output and agriculture managing, adapted to climate change conditions.
«As of now, mankind faces an unprecedented twofold challenge: the need to eliminate hunger and mitigate the effects of climate change upon the agricultural products’ output. So, supporting the FAO Climate Change Strategy, aimed at stimulating global transformation in support of sustainable agriculture, Ukraine is implementing a national Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change for the period up to 2030,» Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Olena Kovaliova said while speaking within the Meeting with FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva as part of the 26th session of the Committee.
As to the report, José Graziano da Silva supported the activities of the Ukrainian Agrarian Ministry as a part of the Framework Program of cooperation between Ukraine and FAO for 20162019, in particular, the development of organic products’ output, land reform, support for small and medium-sized producers, and efforts to ensure epizootic and phytosanitary prosperity within the framework of a global initiative to prevent cross-border and emerging threats to agriculture and food systems.
«Effective cooperation with FAO is determined by Ukrainian authorities e as an important factor of shaping both the food and foreign economic development strategy of Ukraine. In order to expand cooperation with the FAO, the Agrarian Ministry is preparing proposals for the FAO Cooperation Program with Ukraine for 20202023,» Kovaliova summed up.
