FAO deal promotes sustainable rice production
03.04.2017 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
A partnership between the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) aims to support the sustainable production of a staple food enjoyed by millions each day, UN Radio says referring to Maria Helena Semedo, a FAO senior official, report.
As to the report, the agreement, signed last week, will enhance rice farming, including by helping governments to implement policies that benefit small-scale farmers, especially women.
As to the report, over three million people across the globe eat rice every day. And while rice consumption is growing in many countries, rice output is vulnerable to droughts, floods and other impacts of climate change.
So, Semedo emphasizes «ensuring sustainable rice production is a key contribution to the global goal of ending hunger».
