Dubai Declaration points way forward for space for development

Over 100 members of the global space community participated in the High Level Forum, which lasted within 5 days in Dubai and wrapped up yesterday, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, representatives from the global space community have underscored the need for stronger international cooperation in outer space activities and so adopted the Dubai Declaration proclaiming how space science and technology can support global development efforts such as addressing climate change.
Reportedly, the High Level Forum was co-organized by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the United Arab Emirates. The Forum representatives included
heads of national space agencies and astronauts, government officials, academicians, and representatives from non-governmental organizations and the private sector.
«Here in Dubai, together, we have produced a set of recommendations to address key developments both within the space sector and outside, including the fusion of new technologies and new business models that impact outer space activities. This Declaration and what we have learned at this forum have provided us with an understanding of how we should move forward in utilizing space for development, on the need to get open access to space for an increasing number of countries, and in assisting States to attain the Sustainable Development Goals,» Simonetta Di Pippo, the Director of the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), emphasized.
