Ban: Help rural women to thrive
17.10.2016 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of last week, while speaking in a message for the International Day of Rural Women (observed annually as of Oct 15), UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the rural women comprise nearly half the world agricultural workers, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, Ban called for a greater support to help them thrive and to «leave no one behind.»
Reportedly, the UN Chief said rural women grow, process and prepare much of the food that the world eats.
They are also the «backbone» of their communities.
As to the report, Ban reminded that the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development promises to leave no one behind.
To deliver on that promise, he said rural women must be supported so that they can thrive and fulfil their potential without having to leave their communities.
