Childhood exposure to chemicals and pollution must stop, UN rights expert warns
22.09.2016 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Exposure to toxic chemicals and pollution has triggered a «silent pandemic» of childhood disease and disability which should be tackled at a global level, UN Radio says referring to Baskut Tuncak (UN rights investigator, UN Special Rapporteur) report.
It is to be admitted, Baskut Tuncak has made this warning to Member States and business ahead of a meeting of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in Geneva.
As to Tuncak, a lot of children worldwide are being born «pre-polluted», owing to exposure to toxins while in the womb.
The report shows how at least 6,000 children in the US town of Flint, Michigan, were exposed to high levels of lead in drinking water, and how pesticides continue to kill and injure children who are either involved in child labour or poisoned by contaminated food.
