More democracy is key to achieving SDGs, say parliamentarians
15.09.2016 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
A fairer and sustainable world will only be possible if there is more democracy worldwide, UN Radio says referring to the
UN-partner organization, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), report.
It is to be admitted, today the IPU marks the International Day of Democracy and so calls on political leaders to «strengthen connections» between the globally-agreed Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs, and better democratic institutions.
It is to be mentioned, by adopting the theme «Democracy 2030», the IPU says that parliaments have a «crucial role to play into translating the sustainable development agenda into concrete national action».
It is to be reminded, its a year since the 17 SDGs were adopted by 193 countries at the opening of the UN General Assembly 70th session.
