Bread of Ukraine to purchase 2006 grain for 4 traders at total US$50 mn for further export

As to Serghiy Khoroshailov (State-owned Joint Stock Company Bread of Ukraine Chairman) press-conference report, Bread of Ukraine is going to start buying 2006 grain for 4 trading companies for total US$50 mn in order to export grain further on to Algeria, Tunisia and Israel. Khoroshailov refused to name trading companies having just admitted Bread of Ukraine will carry out these operations through its Subsidiary Khlibeksport due to Bread of Ukraine bank accounts have been blocked. Khoroshailov said grain purchase prices haven’t been specified yet. Reportedly, as to Cabinet data, since this MY beginning Ukrainian grain export totaled 12 mn MT (as of May 1, 2006), incl. wheat 5.4 mn MT, barley 3.5 mn MT, maize 3.2 mn MT. Since 2005/06 MY beginning food wheat export has reached 3.3 mn MT (as of May 1, 2006). 2004/05 MY (Jul/04-Jun/05) grains export had grown to 11.075 mn MT, up 8.31 mn MT (+ 300%) against 2003/04 MY; within 2004/05 MY companies were exporting mainly wheat, feed barley and maize.
