Be part of "Mandela movement" for a better world
18.07.2016 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of yesterday, while speaking ahead of Mandela International Day (observed Jul 18), the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged the countries to be part of the «Mandela movement» to make the world a better place, UN Radio reports.
It is to be reminded, Nelson Mandela was the world most famous prisoner of conscience who resisted the former system of racial discrimination in South Africa known as apartheid.
The activist went on to become the countrys first black president in 1994.
It is to be admitted, every year on Nelsons Mandelas birthday, Jul 18, people are asked to volunteer (make any socially useful activity what is called the «Mandela movement») for at least 67 minutes.
Those minutes represent the 67 years the former South African president devoted to bring change to his country.
As to Ban, his sacrifice not only served people of his nation, but made the world a better place for everyone.
Tutor a child. Feed the hungry. Clean up a site or care for your environment. Be part of the «Mandela movement», Ban Ki-moon urged.
Doing so would be the best tribute to a man who showed how one person could make a difference, Ban added.
It is to be reminded, Mr Mandela also known as «Madiba» died in his native village on Dec 5, 2013.
