Ministry of Agrarian Policy urges Cabinet to permit Agrarian Fund selling sugar
08.06.2006 09:00 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As to Ministry of Agrarian Policy draft Decree (published on Ministry official website), Ministry has proposed to Cabinet to allow Agrarian Fund to sell sugar from country State Food Reserve within summer months (when sugar seasonal demand is expected to reach its peak). Ministry is convinced Fund will sell sugar at maximal prices/assure State Budget additional revenues. As of now, State Food Reserve contains 25,000 MT sugar. Presently it is not possible to execute sugar purchases for Food Reserve further on due to market sugar sale prices having reached UAH3,8003,900 per MT. It is to be reminded, Agrarian Fund is authorized to purchase sugar for Food Reserve only at minimal prices (UAH2,850 per MT). As earlier reported, Fund had already purchased 25,200 MT sugar (2005 crop beet) for total UAH71,891 in order to form State Food Reserve. Ministry of Agrarian Policy is set to purchase 200,000 MT sugar for Agrarian Fund within 2006. Experts estimate domestic sugar market annual capacity 22.2 million tons.
