29.01.2016 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The Zika virus is «spreading explosively» in the Americas, with cases in 23 countries and territories, UN Radio says referring to the WHO (World Health Organization) report.
It is to be admitted, the virus is spread by mosquitoes and the WHO suspects that it may be linked to certain deformities that affect newborns.
As to the report, the WHO will convene an emergency meeting next week to determine whether it is of global concern.
It is to be mentioned, the Zika virus gets its name from the forest in Uganda where it was first isolated from a monkey in 1947. For years, only monkeys were affected, although it did cause a mild disease in humans.
