Secretary-General applauds adoption of UN budget for next two years

As of this week Wed, 193 countries that make up the United Nations approved the budget, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon applauded the adoption of the UN budget that will guide the organizations expenditures for the next two years.
Reportedly, the US$5.4 milliard budget includes cuts in several operating areas, while dedicating additional resources to development issues.
As to the report, following the adoption, Ban thanked delegations for their hard work in reaching consensus, which he noted included many late-night negotiating sessions.
He said the spirit in which the agreement had been reached now needed to be carried over into the new year.
«Through it all, we are doing everything possible to fulfill the mandates you give us. We are guided by two pressing obligations: First, our duty to respond to the needs of the worlds people. And second: our responsibility to make the most of the resources you entrust to us,» Ban emphasized.
Reportedly, Ban commended the General Assembly for dedicating more resources to development issues in the wake of the adoption of the new global development goals within this year Sept.
Besides, he also said that cuts to the UN Department of Public Information and Common Support Services would present «some challenges» but that the organization remained committed to delivering on its mandate.
