Addis Ababa Action Agenda endorsed by UN General Assembly

A new plan to end extreme poverty worldwide has been endorsed by the UN General Assembly.
On Mon, the UN Secretary-General said the Addis Ababa Action Agenda provides a new framework for financing sustainable development, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, Member States of the UN General Assembly adopted on Mon the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, which was described by the UN chief as a «major step» towards ending poverty in all its forms.
Reportedly, the 193 countries of the United Nations agreed on measures to generate investments to tackle economic, social and environmental challenges.
As to the report, spe aking at the UN General Assembly in New York, Ban Ki-moon said the agenda provides a guide for actions by all stakeholders.
«It provides incentives for investment in areas of global need, and aligns financing flows and policies with economic, social and environmental priorities. In addition to the agreements in the outcome document, many initiatives were launched, including the Addis Tax Initiative, increased commitments from development banks, and a new financing partnership for womens and childrens health,» Mr. Ban said.
As to the report, Mr. Ban added that the agenda has also laid a strong foundation to support sustainable development goals, or SDGs, which are expected to be adopted by Member States in Sept.
