Poroshenko: Struggle against corruption and smuggling should become a challenge for everyone

As of today, within the course of his working visit to Lviv region, the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko took part in the regional council with security officials and law enforcers of western regions of Ukraine, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
«Struggle against corruption and smuggling should become a challenge for every senior official,» the President said.
As to the report, the Head of State heard the reports of security officials and law enforcers of the border regions.
The President noted that against the backdrop of Russian aggression in Donbas, situation in western regions of the country remains stable due to high self-conscience and patriotic spirit of population. However, in view of troubled situation in the East, the issue of regional security is extremely acute.
«Criminal situation requires joint efforts of all law enforcement bodies. Maintenance of legal order, saving lives and health of our civilians is the main task although it is much more difficult than usually,» the President said.
The Head of State emphasized that struggle against the internal enemy - smuggling and corruption - is being continued in the region.
As to Poroshenko, respective bodies failed to counter smuggling, thus, there were staff changes in the Security Service Board.
As to the report, the President also noted that one must ensure the activity of joint checkpoints all over the western border with Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and Romania in order to ensure efficient struggle against smuggling.
As to the President, this initiative has been discussed with heads of the abovementioned States and representatives of the European Commission and it has been approved.
«It will save time, increase transparency and trust in Ukraine,» Poroshenko emphasized.
Reportedly, the President set a task to present a schedule of opening joint checkpoints by the end of this week.
Besides, the Head of State endorsed the initiative to allocate a share of increased revenue of every checkpoint to the construction of roads in the regions. This initiative had been earlier discussed with Odesa region senior officials.
