Poroshenko: Ukraine expects Eastern Partnership Summit to provide a signal on visa-free regime introduction
21.05.2015 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is hopeful that the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga would approve the European integration aspirations of Ukraine and provide a clear signal on the visa-free regime, which would become a stimulus for the country to settle all technical issues, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
As to the report, within the yesterday joint press conference with President of Slovakia Andrej Kiska (who is on an official visit to Ukraine), Poroshenko emphasized that the issue of providing the visa-free regime for Ukraine by the EU must be divided into political and technical components. «Political decision on the provision of the visa-free regime to Ukraine must be clearly fixed and there should be a clear list of technical issues, which Ukraine is to fulfill by the arrival of the last assessment mission. It will be a very clear and powerful motivation for Ukraine to settle all technical issues,» the Ukrainian President said adding that he counted on such position at the forthcoming Summit.
In his turn, Andrej Kiska emphasized: «We hope this issue will be solved as soon as possible and Ukraine will have visa-free contacts with Europe».
As to the report, the Slovakian President noted that his country supported the process of broadening the EU. «Ukraine has a right and chance to become a member of the EU,» he said.
He added that Slovakia supported Ukraine in that issue. He is planning to discuss the European prospects of Ukrainians at the Eastern Partnership Summit.
Besides, the Ukrainian President also informed that the agreement on provision of EUR1.8 milliard macro-financial aid to Ukraine had been planned to be signed at the Summit in Riga.
