International Support for Ukraine Conference ran in Kyiv

29.04.2015 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — As of Apr 28, the International Support for Ukraine Conference took place in Kyiv on NSC Olimpiyskiy, Government Portal reports . As to the report, senior Ukrainian Government officials and top-level international partners as well as business circles’ representatives discussed promising areas of investments in the country economy, government results of the economy stabilizing and the future steps of reforms. Reportedly, about 500 distinguished guests from more than 50 countries of the world took part in the International Support for Ukraine Conference. In particular, representatives of EU institutions and its member-states, Group of Seven countries, the United Nations; international organizations, world investment and business companies, opinion leaders and civil society representatives. As to the report, the Conference was opened by the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, the Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk and the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker. Reportedly, participants of the event also were Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & EnlargementNegotiations Mr. Johannes Hahn, Prime Minister of Latvia (Latvian Presidency of the EU Council) Ms.Laimdota Straujuma EBRD managing director for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus Francis Malige andothers. As to the report, the discussions were held along four panels, to which there had been invited members of the Ukrainian Government and foreign specialists. The topics of the panels were as follows: rehabilitation of the eastern regions of Ukraine, business climate and investment opportunities in Ukraine, agrarian policy and reforms in this area, as well as energy efficiency. While speaking on the Conference, the Ukrainian PM Arseniy Yatseniuk emphasized that the investment attraction is essential for the country economic growth. «The best „Marshall plan“ in this case is investing in Ukraine», he said. As to him, one of important areas for investment is the country energy sector. He reminded that within the last year the Ukrainian Parliament had passed a law that allowed only EU and the US companies to invest in the Ukrainian gas transportation system. Besides, Yatseniuk emphasized that another important area for foreign investment is the Ukrainian agriculture. «We can produce clean and very competitive agricultural products,» he said. Besides, the PM also emphasized the importance of the Ukraine-EU joint educational programs. «We expect that these programs will bring us a „high IQ“ — in order to move the country forward, to implement reforms and to become more competitive in the world». «We really need „The Marshall Plan“. I am convinced, that this conference is just the first step of creating of the huge comprehensive plan for Ukraine and for our mutual success,» Yatseniuk said.
