President: Ukraine was, is and will be a maritime state

10.04.2015 16:10 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — As of today, within his working trip to Odesa region, the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has visited the flagship of the Naval Forces of Ukraine — frigate «Hetman Sahaidachnyi», President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports. As to the report, while speaking to the sailors, the President has announced the launch of revival of the Ukrainian Navy. «Ukraine was, is and will be a maritime state,» Poroshenko said. As to the President, the precondition of revival and glory of the Ukrainian Naval Forces will be not only its technical re-equipment. «True Ukrainian patriotic morale will be the main aspect in the given issue. I am confident that we will overcome all the difficulties and restore the fleet together. The main thing is that we have its basis — navy sailors loyal to the oath and naval traditions, ready to perform their duty to the people of Ukraine,» the President said. «In order to implement Marine Doctrine of Ukraine, I initiate the pilot project for the restoration and development of the Naval Forces,» the President told adding that this work would involve national and foreign experts. The fighting core of the fleet will consist of ships-carriers of strike weapons, shore missile and artillery systems, fleet air and marines. «In order to ensure the security and defense capacity of Ukraine in Azov-Black Sea region, one should immediately elaborate and implement the State Target Program of Shipbuilding until 2035,» Poroshenko noted.
