Ukrainian President, UN Deputy Secretary General discussed issues of sending peacekeepers to Donbas and reforms' facilitation

As of yesterday, the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with the UN Deputy Secretary General and the Administrator of the UN Development Program Helen Clark, who is on an official visit to Ukraine, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
As to the report, the parties discussed a wide range of issues: the situation in Donbas and the opportunity of involving UN peacekeepers for the settlement of the situation in the region. The Ukrainian President emphasized the need for intensifying efforts on sending peacekeepers under the auspices of the UN to de-escalate the situation in Donbas. He is hopeful that the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly would approve respective mandate.
In her turn, Helen Clark noted particular role of Ukraine in many peacekeeping missions and its significant contribution to the processes of peaceful settlement in various parts of the world.
Also, the parties discussed further implementation of reforms and constitutional dialogue in Ukraine. Speaking of constitutional reform, which is first of all aimed at decentralization, Poroshenko emphasized that «Ukraine is trying to use the best world experience in this sphere, particularly the experience of Poland, and is counting on the participation of the UNDP in the support of decentralization reform and the implementation of constitutional changes».
Reportedly, the parties agreed that the UNDP would be involved in the process of constitutional changes in Ukraine and facilitate constitutional dialogue.
As to the report, Helen Clark expressed hope that Ukraines movement towards reforms would be continued despite the aggression in the East and the annexation of Crimea. She has underlined willingness of the UNDP to comprehensively support reforms in Ukraine. Particularly, she focused on the programs of energy efficiency, energy saving, countering corruption, decentralization, constitutional dialogue and adaptation of internally displaced persons.
