24.02.2015 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The past seven decades would have been bloodier without the existence of the United Nations, NRCU says referring to the
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon report made on the UN Security Council debates on Monday.
It is to be admitted, the debates, organized by China, were focused on reaffirming of the worlds commitment to the UN Charter signed in San Francisco back in 1945.
It is to be reminded, 2015 marks 70 years since the creation of the UN.
In meanwhile, the anniversary finds an organization with major achievements to its credit, Ban K-moon underscored, but also multiple crises on its agenda.
«The United Nations was founded to prevent another world war, and it has succeeded in that. Despite the recurrence of genocide and repeated outbreaks of armed conflict, the past seven decades would surely have been even bloodier without the United Nations,» Ban K-moon said.
Terrorism and extremism have emerged as serious transnational threats, the Secretary-General also warned.
Meanwhile, domestic challenges like public health, environmental degradation and climate change, are becoming more global in nature, so the UN must be willing to act before situations deteriorate and cannot afford to be indifferent, he urged.
