29.12.2014 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Humanitarian workers have been praised by a senior UN official for doing an «heroic job» in often dangerous situations and in the face of human suffering, UN Radio says referring to John Ging, the UN humanitarian office (OCHA) director of operations, report.
As to the report, eighty-five workers have died around the world in the line of duty in 2014, in places like Afghanistan, Syria and South Sudan.
John Ging says that UN and NGO staff continue to work despite the treacherous conditions.
«It is of course very frustrating for humanitarian workers to be out there on the frontline, under-funded, facing the inhumanity and suffering, unable to deliver the assistance that people urgently need. But they just continue to do heroic job. There is no choice we have to keep going we can give up,» Mr.Ging admits.
As to the report, at the end of 2014, over 75 million people worldwide are in need of humanitarian assistance.
It is to be admitted, the UN says it requires around US$16 million to meet their needs in the coming year.
