Another UN staff in Liberia tests positive for Ebola
25.12.2014 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Liberians have been urged to take extra care to prevent contracting Ebola as they gather with friends and relatives over the holidays, UN Radio says referring to the
head of the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) Wednesday report (made following confirmation that one of its staff members tested positive for the deadly disease).
As to the report, it’s already the fourth case of Ebola in the Mission where two of the affected personnel died of the disease only three months ago.
Reportedly, another UNMIL employee who contracted the disease has recovered and was discharged earlier this week.
«The Head of the Mission, Karin Landgren, said that the confirmation of this new case is a stark reminder that we must all remain vigilant until there are no cases in Liberia or West Africa. She added that Liberians can be proud of the progress they have made against Ebola since October, but urged them all to take extra care as they gather with friends and families over the holidays. The Mission is taking all necessary measures to mitigate any possible further transmission both within the mission and beyond,» Stephane Dujarric, the UN Spokesperson in New York, says.
Mr. Dujarric also admits that, in line with World Health Organization (WHO) protocols, the UNMIL Medical team is conducting robust contact tracing.
As to him, the team wants to ensure that all people who came into contact with the infected staff member while symptomatic are assessed and quarantined.
