Fundraising campaign launched to feed people in Ebola-hit countries

A fundraising campaign to meet food needs of families affected by the Ebola outbreak in West Africa was launched by the World Food Programme (WFP) and two partners on Monday, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, Ebola has already killed about 6,900 people and disrupted agriculture in the worst affected countries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone where 500,000 people are already severely food insecure.
It is to be admitted, WFP and FAO (UN Food and Agriculture Organization) recently warned that up to one million people could be left without enough food in the three countries.
«The World Food Programme (WFP) and the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) are launching today a public fundraising campaign with Tencent, one of the world’s largest internet companies. Funds raised from the campaign will go towards WFP’s emergency operations to meet basic food and nutrition needs of affected families and communities in the three countries worst impacted by Ebola -Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea,» Stephane Dujarric, the UN spokesperson in New York, says.
Also, Mr. Dujarric admits since the Ebola outbreak had been first identified in West Africa in April, WFP provided food assistance to more than 2 million people.
As to him, the UN food agency has also supported the medical response through logistical services for the entire humanitarian community, including air transport of people and good.
