Ebola vaccine trial approved in Switzerland

The trial of an experimental Ebola vaccine at Lausanne University Hospital in Switzerland has been approved by a Swiss agency that supervises health products, UN Radio says referring to the World Health Organization (WHO) report.
As to report, the trial will test the safety of the vaccine and its capacity to induce an immune response.
Scheduled to begin this week, it is the second trial coordinated by WHO in Switzerland.
Tarik Jasarevic, a WHO spokesperson, says.
«This approval means that approximately 120 individuals in Lauzanne will be used to trial this vaccine as volunteers. The trial is also ongoing in Mali, the United Kingdom and the United States,» Tarik Jasarevic, a WHO spokesperson, says.
Mr. Jasarevic explains that the vaccine is based on a genetically modified chimpanzee virus.
In meanwhile, WHO says the results of the trial, expected in December, will provide the basis for planning of subsequent trials involving several thousand participants.
